Jimmy Mills

Jimmy was “100 percent a family man”—a wonderful husband and father. He enjoyed hunting and camping. When he wasn’t with his family, he worked equally hard in the community. Jimmy worked for Somerset Builders and even organized a local “Extreme Home Makeover.”  He was a lifetime member of the Waldorf Volunteer Fire Department, where he served since 1981. Each year, he organized a Christmas drive to help needy families.

Jimmy’s cancer had already spread when he was diagnosed. He immediately began treatments and fought a hard battle for eight months. A Message of Hope Cancer Fund helped his family cover living and medical costs, as they quickly had to survive financially when Jimmy stopped working. Jimmy passed away at the age of 44. He is loved and missed dearly.

In addition to the already burdensome costs of treating cancer, when a child or family member is critically ill, one parent may have to leave his or her job to care for them. This makes it difficult for families to cover expenses they previously did not have difficulty with, such as utility bills, rent or mortgage payments, rising gas costs, and other everyday expenses. MHCF offers families assistance with some of these costs.
